About Model ECOWAS Summit
Model ECOWAS Summit (MES) is a simulation activity in which participants obtain skills such as diplomacy, teamwork, leadership, public speaking, and debating on issues at the highest level of regional decision-making. The initiative also aims at enhancing the policy of transforming ECOWAS from ‘’ECOWAS of States to ‘’ ECOWAS of People as well as create an avenue that will enable the youth to gain an understanding of the workings of ECOWAS, its role in regional economic integration and development, established organs, institutions and agencies in order to foster greater participation, networking and engagement with ECOWAS.
This 5th ordinary session of the Model ECOWAS Summit will focus on empowering youth-led MSMEs to build their resilience and drive future growth under the theme: Championing the Growth of Youth-Led MSMEs in Africa Through Digitalization.
Lagos, Nigeria to host 5th Model ECOWAS Summit
The city has been described as the cultural, financial, and entertainment capital of Africa, and is a significant influence on commerce, entertainment, technology, education, politics, tourism, art, and fashion. Lagos which is also among the top ten of the world’s fastest-growing cities and urban areas will host the 5th Model ECOWAS Summit Lagos which is also among the top ten of the world’s fastest-growing cities and urban areas will host the 5th Model ECOWAS Summit. The summit is expected to hold from September 18-21, 2023 at the Nigerian Law School.
Specialized Technical Commission (STC)
Specialized Technical Commission sessions afford participants the opportunity to introduce already tested initiatives as well as new, untested ideas for enhancing youth participation in democratic debate. They are opened to participants to exchange ideas, share experiences and to propose solutions. The work of each Specialized Technical Commission will result in an action-oriented document (final communique). The following specialized technical commissions will be stimulated at the summit: Trade. Customs, Taxation. Statistics, Money and Payments Industry Science Specialized Technical Commission and Technology and Energy Specialized Technical Commission.
